Senior Director/Vice President Immunology
Regulus Therapeutics Inc. is a biopharmaceutical company leading the discovery and development of innovative new medicines based on microRNAs. Regulus is advancing microRNA therapeutics in several areas including hepatitis C infection, cardiovascular disease, fibrosis, oncology, immuno-inflammatory diseases, and metabolic diseases. Regulus was established in September of 2007 by Alnylam Pharmaceuticals (Nasdaq:ALNY) and Isis Pharmaceuticals (Nasdaq:ISIS) and benefits substantially from their RNA therapeutic drug expertise. In April 2008, Regulus formed an alliance with GlaxoSmithKline to explore microRNA therapeutics for immuno-inflammatory diseases. In February 2010, GSK and Regulus Therapeutics announced a new collaboration to develop and commercialize microRNA therapeutics targeting microRNA-122 for the treatment of Hepatitis C Infection. In June 2010, sanofi-aventis and Regulus Therapeutics entered into the largest strategic alliance to-date on microRNA therapeutics.
Regulus is located in Torrey Pines, California and has a seasoned executive team experienced in corporate management, business, science, drug discovery and development. Regulus' scientific advisory board consists of world-class scientists and some of the foremost authorities in the field of microRNA research.

Requirements
Reporting to the Chief Scientific Officer, the Senior Director/Vice President, Immunology will be an integral member of the Regulus team and will contribute significantly to the advancement of numerous discovery and preclinical compounds into the clinic. The primary purpose of this role is to develop preclinical strategies and advance Regulus’ discovery and development of microRNA therapeutics for immunology to proof of concept stage in a timely and cost effective manner.
Regulus is at an exciting stage of growth and is moving towards filing its first INDs in 2011. The individual hired for this role will, therefore, have a significant impact on shaping the future of the Company.
Primary Duties/Responsibilities:
- Serve as immunology leader and expert on project teams
- Participate successfully in a matrix organization
- Understand and participate in the high pressure environment of a start-up biotech
- Function well in highly collaborative inter-relationships
- Lead and manage a team devoted to immunology studies
- Demonstrate an excellent understanding of immune mechanisms
- Advance strategic approaches for development of therapeutics
- Represent Regulus in partnerships related to immunology issues
- Exhibit scientific curiosity
Qualifications And Experience:
- PhD and /or M.D. in scientific area related to immunology/rheumatology
- At least ten years of research and leadership experience in immunology in pharma or biotech
- Must be recognized by peers as an immunology expert
- Strong publication record in respected journals
- Experienced in modern and classical physiological models of immunology
- Successful track record in delivering development candidates and supporting IND filings
- Proven leadership skills in building, motivating and mentoring research groups
- Experience in dealing with large pharma and biotech companies is essential
- Strong intellectual skills necessary to anticipate impact and to develop plans to advance scientific approaches quickly
- Excellent communication skills both verbal and written
- RNAi experience would be valuable but not required.
- Experience in oncology a plus
